I don’t get pedicures very often. The idea of taking an hour to myself sounds divine. In order for me to carve out an hour or more of my time, I feel like I have to plan a week in advance, change my voicemail, notify all clients, and leave someone else in charge (with instructions). Silly, but somewhat true.
I stocked up on all the tools needed to do my own pedi’s years ago. You name it, I have it. And I’m pretty good too! Late at night, after the phone has stopped ringing, dishes are washed, laundry is done and the world is finally quiet, I drag out my shoe box of stuff, and sit in the bathroom floor, perfecting my toes.
I may venture into a nail salon 2-3 times a year, but that’s about it. And when I do, because I so rarely go, it’s completely awkward. I have serious issues with the cleanliness of the tubs, and tools. And, I hate having to pick a color from a wall of 500 pinks, reds, burgundies and other seasonal colors. How many shades of black nail polish does one need? Do they really have to put glitter in one and call it “Starry Night”? :-/
And then there’s the awkward portion of the experience where the tech gives you a foot massage that actually feels really great, but you can’t let on how great it feels, because that’d be creepy. So you’re stuck in this weird moment focusing on anything except for how good a stranger rubbing your feet feels. Thank God for the year-old magazines, carelessly lying around. I brush up, instead, on last fall’s trends.
It’s all worthwhile though, when I look down after it’s over, and see how fantastic and neat the edges are.
Aside from feet, here’s what’s been going on lately:
The Alabama Theatre’s Summer Film Series. Probably one of my favorite things about Birmingham. Tickets are $8 and the Sunday afternoon showings rock my world! Get more info here.
A last-minute, upcoming trip to the Blue Ridge Mountains! I stumbled upon this B&B Spa and couldn’t resist booking a trip. You people can have your summer beach vacays. This redhead is heading to the mountains!
And a new roof! Our little house is finally starting to look less like a foreclosure and more like it’s being loved. Next up, windows & siding… I can’t do a thing with landscaping until those are done, so disregard for now, please! 😉
All in all, life is pretty productive at the moment… Now if I can just get those Taiwan tix booked….
