If Ever – Favorite Food Stops in Ireland

If ever you find yourself in Ireland, I thought I’d make some recommendations for you. While it’s still fresh on my brain, below are my favorite restaurants from our trip. Make it a point to stop at one of them:

Mullingar –

Frayne’s Bakery – First stop off the plane and worth it. Amazing breakfast! Dive right in and order the Full Irish, with tea of course!

Galway –

Oscars Bistro – Best fish and chips, hands down! Their batter is spectacularly different from the rest.

Kings Head – Awesome, handmade burgers & free, authentic music from local artists. Not the cheesy stuff. Good for catching some Irish dancing as well. It gets crowded, so come for dinner and stay for the music afterwards.

Drogheda –

WM Cairnes at the D Hotel – Best Pub food we had. Order the Chicken Wings or the Beef and Guinness Stew

Dublin –

The Italian Corner – Absolutely amazing in price, quality and quantity. The Italian owner is adorable. Stop in for Brunch or Lunch. Portions are great sizes if you order the specials – typically they offer 2 courses for a set price.

The Winding Stair – For a nicer dinner, when you finally get sick of pub food. Have the hotel make a reservation for you. You’ll need it. Cute, small place tucked atop a building on the Quays. Decent wine menu. All food is local, organic & fresh. menu changes nightly. Everything comes out looking and tasting beautifully.

The Quays Restaurant – More of a fancy pub, and right in the middle of Temple Bar, so fairly touristy, BUT I had the best Shepherd/Cottage Pie here. Crazy good!

FX Buckley – Steakhouse where I had the best black pudding, ever! Pretty sure it’s spoiled me for ever eating it again. Formerly a butcher, the selection of meat cuts is fabulous. Get the goat cheese & berry appetizer – It’s enough for 4 people and delicious. Save room for dessert here!
